Destiny Achieves Her Goal

High school freshman Destiny F. struggled with math while attending Harvest Prep, a NAZ Anchor School. But she didn’t accept the low scores as inevitable. Destiny knew that if she wanted to attend Cristo Rey Jesuit, the high school of her dreams, she would have to work hard to understand the material. So she set a goal for herself: to bring her math scores up enough to qualify for Cristo Rey.

She enlisted the help of her NAZ Academic Navigator ShaVonda A. and NAZ Connector Opal R. In partnership with Harvest Prep, ShaVonda and Opal matched Destiny with a math tutor and worked to ensure she could attend all her tutoring sessions. Over the course of a year, Destiny’s math scores skyrocketed and she achieved her goal, entering Cristo Rey as a freshman in Fall 2014.
