Strategic Coordination Strategy
Coordination Teams
In order to promote organizational networking, strategic coordination, and shared planning amongst key groups providing opportunities within the Northside Achievement Zone, “Coordination Teams” will be formed.
The Teams will be organized by specific topic areas (such as mentoring and housing) in order to promote high achievement and close the achievement gap for all students in the Zone.
Coordination Team Requirements
Groups with the following attributes will be considered as Coordination Teams for NAZ:
• The Team forming has at least three members and one identified leader willing to coordinate with NAZ leadership.
• The Team members are willing to commit to the vision and values of NAZ.
• The Team members are interested in coordinating how their services/opportunities are aligned within the Zone.
• The Team will commit to establishing achievement goals that contribute towards the outcomes of NAZ as a whole.
Examples of coordinated work within Coordination Teams are hosting shared training, geographically dividing up services in a coordinated manner, joint fundraising, shared case management, and strategic replication of services.
Expectations
Coordination Teams will have the following expectations from the NAZ Steering Committee:
• The Coordination Team will operate under guiding principles developed by NAZ leadership.
• The Team Leader (or one if there is co-leadership) from each Coordination Team will sit on the Steering Committee and coordinate with the NAZ leadership and the full collaborative process.
Start-Up Process
To serve as a NAZ Coordination Team, the following steps need to be taken:
- Identified team leader will work with NAZ leaders to develop a “Guarantee” that the group operates under and the correlates with the overall goal of NAZ to promote high academic achievement and life success, and plan for establishing a Coordination Team that develops strategies in line with the overall outcomes.
- Submit a “Charter” online after the “Guarantee” from Steering Committee is determined, including:
- Leader(s) fill out online profile– Brief description of the Team Leader’s work within the topic area
- Creation of a vision statement for the long-term purpose of the Team
- Identification of up to three key goals the Team will begin working on in year one
- Commit to working towards the creation of a concrete workplan with goals, measurable outcomes, and a coordinating timeline that meet with the outcomes outlined for the overall NAZ initiative.

- Housing

The Guarantee: Guarantee housing continuity that encourages achievement, through the collaboration of housing organizations for families enrolled in NAZ. - Mentoring
Team Leaders: Nancy Torrison (nancyt@kinship.org) and Darrell Thompson (dthompson@bolderoptions.org)
The Guarantee: Established mentoring organizations, utilizing best practices, will serve every child in the Zone who is eligible for a mentor. - Out-of-School Time
Team Leaders: Karen Goodenough (kgoodenough@pcyc-mpls.org)
The Guarantee: Work together to leverage opportunities and coordinate strategic efforts in Out-of-School Time programs serving children and youth in the Zone. - Early Childhood
Team Leaders: Dianne Haulcy (dhaulcy@reubenlindh.org) and Maureen Seiwert (Maureen.Seiwert@mpls.k12.mn.us
The Guarantee: Organizations working together to provide an early start for achievement.
