Summer Opportunities for Scholars

It’s (almost) that time of the year again, and fun summer programs will be here before we know it! Below is a list of free and low-cost summer programs for NAZ scholars. Keep an eye on this list as it continues to grow!

St. Kate’s Fashion Workshop 
St. Kate’s University runs a week-long fashion workshop for high school juniors and seniors. Learn from faculty and current students about the world of fashion and discover life on campus. Women of color are encouraged to apply. Click here for more information and to register. Tuition is reduced to $50 for families that qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Lutheran Social Service Freedom School is a FREE summer program in North Minneapolis that builds academic skills through high-quality STEM education and summer reading activities.

University of Minnesota’s < RUN>: \ THE\ WORLD Machine Learning Summer Day Camp (High School ONLY) is a unique opportunity to connect with other high school students who share the same interests, and learn cool programming and math techniques that make a difference in the world.

    • NOTE: While each week-long camp costs $75, a fee waiver is available upon request.

Teen Internship – Hennepin County Library’s Teen Tech Squad is seeking teens ages 16-18 to join their team. Teen Tech Squad members help provide fun learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) for kids and teens. 

    • Interns will be paid $20.50 per hour. NOTE: This position is year-round (school year and summer)

    • Open to K-8 scholars residing on the Northside. Transportation provided.
    • June 20th – August 4th / Monday – Thursday / 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Plymouth Christian Youth Center (PCYC) – Bright Futures

    • Open to K-5 scholars residing on the Northside. Transportation provided.
    • July 5th – August 19th / Monday – Friday / 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

KIPP Beacons (North Star)

    • Open to 1st-8th grade scholars at KIPP and/or NAZ scholars.
    • June 20th – July 15th / Monday – Friday / 10:00am – 3:00pm; YMCA Day Camp July 18th – 22nd and July 25th – 29th

Beacons at Hmong International Academy

    • Open to all scholars, with priority given to NSJ scholars. Transportation provided for Northside scholars.
    • July 5th – 28th / Monday – Friday / 2:30 – 4:30pm (with transportation); YMCA Day Camp August 1st – 5th and August 8th – 12th

Cookie Cart (Youth Employment)

    • Open to 14 to 18-year-olds. The Internship will be a 90-day commitment of a combination of virtual meetings and days onsite at Cookie Cart.
